Facts
The "President" Segment's Civic Curriculum.
Hey, did you know that President the Musical has this cool concept of the Executive Branch, and it's all presented through a "Muppet Cabinet"? It teaches kids that leadership means voting on small-scale decisions, like the colour of a new park bench.
The "Prince Elmo" Sleeping Beauty Parody.
In this bit, Elmo plays a prince who has to wake a "Sleeping Bread." It's a play on words based on the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, focusing on phonemic awareness and rhyming to solve the curse.
Sea Captain the Musical's "Navigation" Math.
In the segment, Captain Elmo navigates a ship using a "Number Map." It teaches ordinal numbers (first, second, third) and spatial directions (port and starboard) through repetitive sea shanties.
So, the vibe of Athlete the Musical is kind of like the "Rocky" aesthetic, you know?
This bit uses a high-energy "stadium" lighting rig and a "Jumbotron" screen. It makes fun of sports broadcasts to show kids how the body works when it's getting ready to play and when it's cooling down.
The "Circus" Physics Lesson.
Circus the Musical stars Elmo as the ringmaster, coordinating a group of Muppet acrobats. It's a great intro to balance and gravity, showing how different weights affect how stable a high-wire act is.
Let's Make Music Bonus Feature Legacy.
This 1999 full-length video was included to provide "value-added" content. It features a younger Elmo and the character "The Music Works," which acts as a historical bridge between 90s puppetry and the 2013 CGI-integrated style.
Abbey Home Media's UK Standardization.
The 2015 UK release had to be "localised" for a few of the audio tracks. We kept references to "Presidents", but we adjusted certain measurements and vocabulary in the subtitles to align with British English standards.
The "Titular Segment" Format Shift.
This was the first DVD to put a 15-minute "long-form" segment at the front, instead of the usual "magazine" style of the street. It was a move towards "episodic" Muppet content designed for digital streaming platforms.
Walmart's "Early Window" Data Collection.
The April 2013 exclusive release allowed Warner Home Video to track regional sales data. This helped us figure out the budget for making Elmo the Musical - Volume 2, based on how well it did in North American midwestern sales.
Green Screen "Virtual Stage" Development.
So, unlike the physical Sesame Street set, these segments were filmed pretty much entirely on a "virtual stage". This meant that the "scale-shifting" we see in Sea Captain, where the Muppets look much smaller than the ocean environment, was possible.

Learning to count and categorise is as exciting as a Broadway opening night.

Elmo's showing he's a good sport. This is a great tool for positive behaviour intervention for parents. Use it to encourage your child to try their best and celebrate progress. The final score isn't as important as the effort.
Prince Elmo the Musical uses a fairy tale setting to teach pattern recognition. Kids help Elmo get around a magical kingdom by working out which numbers to pick next. It's a key skill to teach in the first maths lessons. It helps your child understand that numbers and shapes follow a specific order.
This DVD was only available as a Walmart exclusive before it was released more widely. It's a popular collection of preschool learning activities. Each musical is designed to be interactive. It's a great way to practise critical thinking skills. The show gets the audience involved by having them shout out answers.
